Overview:
This four-session Virtual Book Club is designed to guide teachers in exploring differentiated instruction as they read a book on differentiation, hear from the book’s author, talk with colleagues, and connect key ideas from the book with their own classroom practice. Prior to each session, participants will read a specified segment of The Differentiated Classroom: Responding to the Needs of all Learners alone, with a few colleagues, or as part of a faculty-wide learning focus. In each of the 4 sessions, participants will have the opportunity to discuss questions or key excerpts related to the week’s readings and to connect the questions and ideas to their own experience. The sessions will also examine classroom examples from the book as well as related applications from other classrooms and illustrate processes and strategies that are useful in aeffectively teaching a broad range of learners.A segment of each session will be dedicated to the author answering questions participants pose.
Agenda:
Session 1: What is Differentiation, Wheredo its Ideas Come from, and what do they have to do with me and my Students?

Session 2: Learning Environments and Differentiation: If this is so Important, Why Don’t We Talk about it More?

Session 3: Differentiation and the Curriculum/Assessment/Instruction Connection: Differentiating What, Why, and How?

Session 4: Instruction in Action in Differentiated Classrooms

At the close of each session, participants will receive two options for extending their thinking in the topic for that week’s Book Club session. One option will be for participants to reflect further about the topic based on questions the book’s author proposes, alone or with colleagues, and posting thoughts, conclusions, or questions for the group’s consideration. The second option will be to try out an idea explored during that week’s Book Club session and posting a brief summary of both positives and opportunities for revision based on the application
